In Memory

The Toby Smith Bursary Fund

21 Oct 1981 - 21 Jul 2015

Toby Smith (Tilly's, 1995-2000) tragically died in 2015 after a long battle with cancer. He was an inspirational character who is greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a hugely talented and successful sportsman, and excelled both in a rowing boat and on the rugby pitch during his years at Teddies and beyond.

The Toby Smith Bursary Fund has been established in memory of Toby.  The Fund will support talented children who would otherwise not be able to contemplate a Teddies education.

In May 2022 160 of Toby’s friends and family joined us for a very special evening to remember Toby, to celebrate his life and to raise funds to grow the Bursary that Nick McEwen (Tilly's, 1994-1999) had established in Toby's name.  The evening reconnected many old friends and welcomed new faces to the school.  It was a terrific occasion of fun, laughter and many happy memories and along with Nick’s donation, gifts on the evening and on-line support to date we have raised just over £90,000 for this endowed fund.

We want to thank the brilliant committee for organising such a special occasion; Chris Bates (Corfe, 1995-2000), Pete Swainson (Tilly’s, 1995 – 2000) and Simon John (Apsley, 1995 – 2000) and all those who joined us on the evening or supported Toby’s fund.
