‘Meet the author…’ – a new Friends’ event offering the opportunity to chat with and listen to renowned authors:

Tuesday 13th June 2023, 6:30-7:30pm on Zoom.

We are delighted to be hosting Bart van Es, an English Literature Professor at Oxford University born in the Netherlands, and author of 'The Cut Out Girl'.

In his book, Bart tells the tale of his grandparents Jans and Henk van Es, who sheltered Jewish children during the German occupation of the Netherlands as part of the Dutch Resistance. 'The Cut Out Girl' won the 2018 'Costa Book of the Year', nominated alongside Sally Rooney's 'Normal People', as well as Costa's 'Biography Award 2018'.

'This is an astonishing, moving reckoning with a young girl's struggle for survival during war' - Waterstones

Do come along and join us in conversation with Bart - a fantastic opportunity to engage and ask questions about the book, or to just sit back and listen. Everyone is welcome, so there is no pressure to be a keen reader!

We look forward to seeing you there!
